Currently, Happy Hooves Treks offers guided treks on Fridays and Saturdays, with tours starting at 10:00am.

Interest is growing. Soon we will add afternoon departures, allowing for more availability.

The treks are approximately 1.5 hours +/-

Our treks are easy and designed for a relaxed, low-key experience. If you’re looking to disconnect from a hectic pace and enjoy a guided walk alongside our gentle miniature donkeys, you’ll feel right at home.

The starting elevation is 1660 feet and the highest elevation is 1833 feet.

These walks are not intended to be strenuous or cardio-focused. They are all about slowing down, taking in the surroundings, and enjoying the journey.

Please pack

  • bug spray
  • a raincoat
  • water to drink along the way
  • Do not bring any animals or pets, especially your dog.
  • As tempting as it is, do not bring any treats for the donkeys and horses.

Our treks are designed to be calm, mindful, and low-key, making them a wonderful fit for families and anyone seeking a peaceful experience in nature. While small celebrations are welcome, these walks may not be the best fit for traditional birthday or bachelorette parties unless your group is happy to keep things quiet and in tune with the relaxed pace of the experience.

We’re located at 4312 Cutcane Road in Mineral Bluff, just about a 15-minute drive north of downtown Blue Ridge. We are close enough for convenience, yet far enough to feel like a true escape into the mountains.

We currently have five miniature donkeys and four miniature horses, each with their own unique personality – and yes, they’re incredibly smart! Donkeys are natural explorers and are known for their strong memories (it’s true, they don’t forget much). Both the donkeys and horses genuinely enjoy getting out on the trails and sharing the experience with visitors.

A friendly reminder: do not bring treats or food for the donkeys and miniature horses.

Because donkeys tend to move at a slower, more deliberate pace while miniature horses are a bit quicker, we’re thoughtfully developing separate hike options to match their natural rhythms. We offer two trek options:

  • a shorter 1.5-mile walk
  • a longer 2.5-mile hike

You can choose the experience that feels right for you while enjoying time with these wonderful companions.

Each trek is led by one experienced guide who shares stories about the area, local wildlife, and native plants along the way. Whenever possible, a second team member also joins at the rear of the group to help keep everyone together, assist with gates, and ensure a smooth and relaxed experience from start to finish.
